In the past a few years, with the rapid economical development, the consumption amount of stainless steel also rose. During 1990-2005, our average yearly growth rate is 23.4%, 4 times as international growth. (6% for international rates). The speedy consumption amount also promoted domestic stainless steel industry. Within 10years from 1998 to 2006, with the help of government policies, our output has reached since 0.2 million tons to 5 millions tons, productivity reached up to 10 millions tons.
From the statistics, the actual output of 2006 was 5.1 millions tons, about 60% growth rates, import volume fell to 2.6 millions tons and export volume rose to 0.6 million tons.
However, compared with developed countries like Japan and Korea, our stainless steel industry system is not prefect, especially in further processing and distribution, we still have a long way to go. Our stainless steel industry started fairly late, with the huge growth of demand, the priority of our stainless steel industry is how to promote productivity to meet the growing needs, gradually replace import and finally fulfill quantitative and qualitative changes. By now, our stainless steel industry has achieved quantitative change, trying to reach qualitative change.
